Illinois has a long-standing reputation as one of the most innovative and productive public research universities in the world. Discoveries and technologies developed here have radically changed the way we live in the world, from the light-emitting diode to the revolutionary web browser, Mosaic. Exciting and revolutionary work is being done every day, in every discipline.
Our corporate partners are an important source of research funding for the campus. The corporate research support has been increasing significantly over time. Corporate research funding in FY2015 totaled $62.5M with 395 companies with active research contracts.
There are many opportunities for industry to engage with our researchers through funded research, applied research projects, participation in our research centers, or the pursuit of collaborative federal funding opportunities. Confidentiality and intellectual property management are integral to any research interaction enabling our corporate research partners to commercialize the resulting technology. The Office of Corporate Relations can link you with existing research programs, or speak with you to determine how we can best suit your specific research needs.
